Dr Sarvesh Goyal, AIIMS PG Rank 4 & Plan C user shares tips and strategies
Big congratulations, Dr Sarvesh Goyal on AIIMS PG Rank 4! Can you tell us something about yourself?
Hi, thank you. 🙂 I graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College and I want to specialise in any Surgery field, preferably Neurosurgery.
When did you start your preparations, Dr Goyal?
I started as early as 3rd year, by looking at previous exam papers and repeat topics in AIIMS. I found out about Marrow in Feb 2018 and started using the Pro plan C in July 2018. I really do regret not using Marrow earlier.
How did you use Marrow videos for your preparation?
I watched videos by fast-forwarding them during the pockets of time I got between my internship and during travel. And I added points to a notebook that I used to carry around. In my case, solving QBank was completely independent of watching videos. I followed the asynchronous method as advised by Dr. Deepu
Who was your favourite teacher on Marrow?
Anatomy was my weak subject, and Dr Raviraj’s and Dr Arivuselvan’s videos helped me a lot in understanding the subject from a conceptual level. I found radiology videos also very helpful as they touched upon related subjects as well.
How did you study the QBank?
Randomly. As my internship was hectic, whenever I got time I solved the modules. The AIIMS exam taps the remote memory and solving QBank in asynchronous method helped me. I could complete 390 modules and more than 80% of the test including all the Grand Tests.
Did you make notes while solving the QBank?
Yes, whatever was new to me I added it to my notes or bookmarked it for revision.
When do you recommend your juniors to start preparing with Marrow?
Final Year, because internship you will not have enough time to study.
What was your rank in the Marrow AIIMS Mock?
Around 490, because I was not well. If I get a bad rank in a GT I just make it a point to do better in the next one.
Did you use any guides for your preparation?
No Guides. I was solely dependant on Marrow. It is very easy to use. The other thing is you cannot get bored with Marrow. I listened to music and solved MCQs on Marrow for 7-8 hours.
What was your approach to controversial questions?
I never panicked. Only 1-3 will come in the real exam, and there’s nothing much you can do about those.
How did you use Pearls for your preparation?
Whenever I got bored of studying I read the Pearls in a random order and if it was something new, I added it to my notes.
What according to you is the best feature of Marrow?
It is so well organised, easy to use and the design is great. I could not carry books everywhere and this where Marrow helped the most by having a large no. of topics in one place.
Can you brief us about your revision strategy?
I mostly did Recall Tests and mocks from Marrow during the last few weeks and also revised my notes.
How many questions did you attempt?
I had attempted 200 questions.
Be like Virendra Sehwag in T-20. Take the risk and attempt maximum questions, don’t forget it is a competitive examination!
Thank you Dr Goyal for your valuable tips! All the very best.
Thank you
